FOUNDERS
Grupo Capoeira Brasil - GCB is our international group. It was founded in 1989 on January 14th by Mestre Boneco, Paulão Ceará and Paulinho sabia, the foundation date was the 100th year anniversary for the abolishment of slavery in Brazil. All founding Mestres (Masters) bring their own style, values and principles to the group but have a common goal to promote Capoeira, its cultural legacy and advocate inclusion and diversity for all practitioners.

Capoeira Brasil - Australia
Mestre Peixe – Sydney
Mestre Peixe is a direct student of Mestre Boneco and is based in Sydney - Australia. He has contributed much to the development of Capoeira in the Australasia region - he is considered a pioneer and has been the head of Capoeira Brasil Australia since 1992.
Formado Uakari – Townsville
Formado Uakari has been pioneering Capoeira in far north Queensland since 2000. He is dedicated to learning, teaching and promoting the art of Capoeira to a high and ethical standard the community. His Capoeira school in Townsville has hosted countless workshops, event, shows, demonstrations and Capoeira programs.
Formado Javali – Melbourne
After 24 years of training, teaching and continued learning in Capoeira, in July 2024, Javali was awarded his corda preta “black belt”, the final belt in Capoeira Brasil recognising his dedication to Capoeira and divulging it to the community to a high standard keeping in line with tradition and evolving with the times. He is the first Australian-Khmer to be awarded this prestige to our knowledge in the Capoeira community.
New Caledonia – between 2004 and 2016, Javali helped introduce Capoeira to the community of New Caledonia with a combined effort of other teachers and Capoeira groups.
